In the last few months, the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown have crippled the MSME sector - the backbone of India’s economy. The micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector comprises of the business units that largely depend on recurring sales to meet fixed costs. Now, with near-zero revenue, many of these small and medium businesses (SMBs) are in an unprecedented financial crisis. Lack of funds to recommence production with hefty rents and salaries to pay, many of them have shut shop. As the lockdown restrictions are eased, surviving SMBs are picking themselves up, and are demonstrating resilience and perseverance in resuming operations.
To celebrate these SMBs, bring them into the spotlight and make their voices heard, YourStory is celebrating MSME Week, powered by our credit empowerment partner - TransUnion CIBIL, India's first credit information company and Dell Technologies, our associate sponsor, from June 20 to June 27, 2020. During this virtual, week-long celebration, YourStory is showcasing stories of some of India's most loved, home-grown SMBs and brands. They have built their business over the years and transformed themselves through innovation. These are the SMBs that India is proud to show off to the world. As part of the MSME Week, YourStory is hosting a series of live, online interviews, panel discussions and editorial coverages. A large number of attendees, particularly from the SMB sector, are expected to attend. The week-long celebration will culminate in a grand finale featuring champions of the MSME segment on MSME Day (June 27, 2020).
