Hardipinder Singh, who works at Wipro Technologies, has been using IBM i-series for most of his projects, as it is one of IBM’s legacy technologies and also part of the mainframe. In the IBM i-series, Hardipinder used to work on AS400 and the maintool, BIPIX.

When they were approached by a pharmaceutical client to help them better manage their inventory that included the configurations, shipments and all the data,Hardipinder relied on BIPIX for the for inventory management.

“It was employed for two reasons, one, because it was quick to use as it didn’t have much of a user interface, as it was a very old DOS-based technology. Second, it was unhackable.”

Harpinder explains why being unhackable is a huge advantage, “Being unhackable makes it a very prominent tool for clients and customers to take into consideration that their data will be secured and data won’t be tampered with.”

The pharmaceutical company had a long process of collecting data and managing the quantity of the drug that is required to produce one capsule, the batch number and the shipment details. Harpinder and his team were able to transfer huge amounts of data, from various countries in about 20-30 minutes. “Data transferring, data transmission, data handling, data quarrying was very seamless. Now we use IBM Watson and IBM CLI most of the time for application development and deployment.”
